Term Definition
Activity Categories and List Themed groups of activities organized by type of activity.
Assessment Activities that work to identify and describe the extent and type of community issues and needs of individuals and/or target populations in the CFHL-eligible community; can include pre- and post-assessment of other types of activities.
Community Change Goals Broad, long-term goals that support of the needs of all community members (may be regional,
county, city or collaborative specific) that help shape the CFHL work plan. May have CalFresh
Heathy Living and non-CalFresh Healthy Living components.
Community Engagement Grassroots/CFHL population and leadership work/engagement with community (groups/individuals) who are affiliated by geographic proximity, special interest, or similar situations to address issues around healthy eating and active living in their communities.
Coordination and Collaboration: Partnerships and Coalitions Work to coordinate CFHL activities, collaborate with, and/or organize other CFHL funded and non-funded partners to promote healthy eating and active living among the CFHL target population.
Complimentary PSE Sub-strategies that support and add to the effectiveness of a PSE Strategy, but may not be feasible, necessary, and/or are not as effective alone.
Comprehensive Setting-based Approaches Pre-packaged PSE Strategies and Sub-strategies for specific settings that have been deemed priority settings for reaching and impacting our target population.
Core PSE Sub-strategies that are essential to the effectiveness of a PSE Strategy. These PSE Sub-strategies must be included in IWPs in support of that specific PSE Strategy.
Direct Education A planned nutrition education activity designed to increase knowledge of and/or skills in (not just awareness of) healthy eating, food resource management and active living, where participants are actively engaged in the learning process with an educator and/or interactive media within an evidence-based intervention.
Domain Categories of settings by intention (e.g. what happens at the sites) where people eat, learn, live, play, shop, and work; developed by USDA.
Foundational Objectives Three foundational objectives draw on essential elements of CFHL both in program delivery and priority indicators of success—quality direct education, partnerships & coalitions, and community engagement—to create SMART objectives for consistent work statewide.
Indirect Education
(Promotion)
The distribution or display of information and resources that are designed to increase public awareness of CFHL and/or increase awareness of healthy eating and active living.
Innovative Work A PSE Strategy or Sub-strategy that is entirely new, meets a need in the community, and differs from a current PSE Strategy and/or Sub-strategy within the IWP Blueprint Structure and falls within SNAP-Ed Plan Guidance. Innovative strategies and/or sub-strategies must be accompanied by a justification statement and require review and approval by the SIA prior to implementation.
Integrated Work Plan (IWP) The document and table that contains all of the CA CFHL programmatic components, Domains, Settings, PSE Strategies, PSE Sub-strategies, and Activities. It links the components together and ensures that implementation of local workplans are rooted in evidence-based and effective strategies.
Planning Stages The phases of program implementation, i.e. planning, implementation, maintenance and monitoring.
PSE Strategies Evidence-based healthy eating and active living strategies found to be more effective in certain settings that are aligned to the Foundational Objectives.
PSE Sub-strategies A specific set of evidence-based, behaviorally-focused interventions and/or actions that support PSE Strategies.
Setting The specific types of sites where education and PSE interventions occur.
Sub-strategy Activity Tables Sets of specific activities derived from the Activity Categories for implementation of each PSE sub-strategy.
Training and Technical Assistance Work to provide appropriate resources, information and training to partners in support of healthy eating and active living planning, strategy and intervention implementation.
