This 60-minute webinar is designed specifically for food bankers, SNAP-Ed staff, and pantry volunteers without formal nutrition backgrounds who support community health every day. We’ll begin by establishing a shared language, breaking down basics like macronutrients and food groups to ensure everyone feels confident with the terminology. From there, we’ll take a "virtual tour" of a food distribution site. Together, we’ll explore common pantry items to discuss their health benefits and best practices for storage and food safety. We’ll also spend time busting common myths and navigating special dietary needs. Trauma-Informed Customer Service is a training for anyone working in community settings facilitating classes and/or capacity-building programs who would like to develop their customer service and relationship-building skills.

During this course, you will: - Understand how positive and adverse experiences affect individual and community relationships to food and dietary health. - Learn the basic process and principles of a trauma-informed approach and how to apply it to pantry work. - Learn actionable steps that you can take to create client and community-centered food distributions. - Gain resources and tools for implementing trauma-informed practices in their distribution through the physical environment, nutrition education, and gathering neighbor feedback.

This unique training will equip participants to facilitate the Around the Table Older Adults curriculum. This training is intended for educators working with older adults. (If an agency has multiple participants, each participant must register separately so that their registration email can be added to our online training system)

Food Smarts is a flexible, learner-centered cooking and nutrition curriculum with materials and lesson plans appropriate for K-12 youth and adults (including older adults).
